I was thinking recently, since I had an extra leap day to do so, about spring. Then again, when we lost an hour springing forward. Not yet having enough coffee to compensate for the lost hour of sleep, I looked up the first day of spring in 2020. Did you know spring arrives early this year?
According to the Old Farmers Almanac website, “For much of the last century, the spring equinox has occurred on March 20 or 21. This year, however, the equinox happens on the 19th in all U.S. time zones, making it the earliest spring we’ll have seen in our lives (so far). The last time spring arrived this early was in 1896—a whopping 124 years ago!”
Nature is leaping early, too! With the mild winter we’ve had things are sprouting all over the garden and so many trees are in bloom. And Village Frame and Gallery is starting our Leap Into Spring Sale early! Beginning Tuesday, March 10th through Saturday, March 21st save a spring worthy 15% on all your new custom framing projects!
Village Frame and Gallery is located at 7808 SW Capitol Highway, Portland 97219 in the heart of Multnomah Village. Our regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm.

It’s February. It’s gray, but not raining, and it’s First Friday! Village Frame and Gallery is pleased to feature Elana Einstein and Janet Collamer in the gallery this month.
Mandalas by Elana Einstein
About Elana Einstein
Elana Einstein is a local Portland artist
and a retired preschool teacher. She now enjoys her time dotting
mandalas and other symbolic themes. She also uses multi media photo
manipulation to create dotted personal photos.
She paints acrylics on canvas, wood, rocks and other recycled and natural materials. Einstein says “creating mandalas is a meditative activity that provides peace of mind to the creator and observer. Through my art I try practicing generosity, loving kindness and gratitude every day.”
Acrylic dots by Janet Collamer
About Janet Collamer
Janet Collamer is a
painter who is greatly inspired by native art in the Americas, Africa, Asia,
but especially Australia. Janet lived in Mexico for two years and the murals
and bright colors used there also inform her work.
Janet is a retired public school teacher where her best day of the week was Art Day. Janet lives in Beaverton with her husbands and sons.
Join us tonight, 6pm to 8 pm, for an artist’s reception to welcome Elana and Janet in the gallery. After the reception, stop by Renner’s to welcome them back to the neighborhood. Yes…
Renner’s is Open!
They’re still working out the kinks, but Renner’s Bar & Grill and Suburban room opened to the public for the first time in almost two years last Friday night for a fundraising event. The same faces are there and our neighborhood Five Star Dive Bar is back! The interior, rebuilt completely from the ground up has the same layout and a new curved bar. It’s still Renner’s, but updated.
We are so pleased to welcome Renner’s back to the neighborhood, it’s been too long. Renner’s opens at 11:00 am every day. We hope to see you there!

It’s January, and we all know what that means…resolutions. Putting away the holiday decorations, clearing the clothes off the exercise bike, and doing a Marie Kondo on the closets and storage areas. At Village Frame and Gallery we’re doing the same thing. It’s not that the artwork we have in storage doesn’t bring us joy, but rather we think it will bring more joy displayed in someone’s home. And at great sale prices, it’s the perfect time to put something new up on those walls!

From our families to yours, all our best for the holidays.
It’s the holidays and like many of our clients we’re getting our home ready for visitors and celebrations. We’ve been making Christmas cookies, Jeanette and I raided my mom’s recipes, to great cheer from my son, brother and father. To wrap presents last evening I had to clear off the dining room table. And our guest bedroom, well let’s just say that it’s where all matter of things are placed until such time as we need them or need the bedroom for guests.
Are you getting your home ready for the holidays, too? Need to clear out that guest bedroom and be able to set the dining room table for guests? Don’t stash that artwork you picked up on vacation under the bed, bring it to Village Frame & Gallery now and take advantage of our Golden Ticket offer – 10% off new custom framing projects – through December 31st! Your artwork will be safe and after the New Year you’ll have new artwork to put on your walls!
Last minute gifts at Village Frame & Gallery!
I walked into the mall last weekend, yes I did. I honestly haven’t “shopped” in a mall for years – why would I when there are so many great local shops in Multnomah Village and Hillsdale? Well, I went to the mall because I needed a piece of jewelry fixed and, perhaps, just a bit of curiosity. (Side note – I so miss Jones and Jones in the Village!) The mall was festive and the stores I walked into had very pleasant and helpful staff, just like the shops here in the Village. There is one BIG difference, the shops in the Village and Hillsdale are curated, owned and staffed by your neighbors!
At Village Frame & Gallery we have gifts for everyone on your list, hand made by local and regional artists. Beadwork jewelry, sculpture, ceramics, hand-turned wood pens and unframed original art. We can tell you about the artists and about the art – where they live and the processes they use – because they are your neighbors too!
Last minute framing options, now through Christmas Eve!
Precious family photos and framed artwork make wonderful gifts for the holidays and it’s not too late to create that special gift! Village Frame Gallery is pleased to carry 5×7 and 8×10 photo frames and a large selection of unique ReadyFast frames in standard sizes from 5×7 to 16×20, priced for holiday gift giving. As the name implies, framing projects with ReadyFast frames can be ready in as little as one day. Bring in those photos or artwork for that special someone and we’ll create a memorable gift, just in time for Christmas!

How did this happen? The year has just spirited by! A lovely spring gave way to June and July construction in the Village, the entire road being removed and the intersection torn up for what seemed like forever. A cooler than usual summer then lead to one of the most spectacular autumns I can remember. And now here we are planning our Holiday windows. Seriously, how did the year trip by so fast?
Yes, the holidays are upon us. We’ll be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 28th and 29th for Thanksgiving, and to get the shop and gallery ready for the Holidays.
